WATERVLIET CROSS COUNTRY JAMBOREE
October 17, 2007
The third and final SAC Cross Country Jamboree was held on
Wednesday, hosted by Watervliet. Picture perfect weather
provided a great backdrop for runners and fans alike as the
Bangor Boys and Saugatuck Girls each won the conference titles.
The team race has been dominated by Bangor in the previous two
jamborees. Once again the Bangor boys just couldn’t be held
back defeating second place Saugatuck with Lawrence finishing in
third place.
Saugatuck’s Christian Birky won the individual race as he did in
the previous two jamborees. Birky leads the All SAC runners who
include Bangor’s Drew Fuentes, David Watson, Matt Melvin, Jake
Skinner, Eric Thompson and Bloomingdale’s Joe Sapp.
Second team runners include Saugatuck’s Tyler Slentz and Ethan
Lievense, Bangor’s William Hodge and Israel Munoz, Gobles Ricky
Gilbert and Kurtis Dickerson, and Quinn Saule from Lawrence.
Honorable Mention runners are Alden Phillips Lawton; Jeremy
Flagel and Eric Phillips of Watervliet, Jose Hernandez and Kyle
Hallgren of Hartford, Jeremy Pitcher of Saugatuck, and Trevor
Stermer from Lawrence.
A very special thanks to the Watervliet sports department headed
by Athletic Director Ken Dietz who hosted a great event, followed
with an award ceremony for the runners in the high school gym.
